LOCALIZATION OF REOVIRUS CELL

Purified reovirus type 3 (strain Dearing) was treated with monoclonal anti-?l
antibody conjugated to ferritin and examined in the electron microscope. Virion associated
ferritin molecules corresponding to locations of the ?l protein were
observed. Electron microsocpy of thin sections of these preparations revealed that
ferritin conjugates were localized at the vertices of the viral icosahedron. Reovirus
cores possessing spikes and protein ?1, prepared by partial chymotrypsin digestion
of intact virions, were similarly treated and examined. Core-associated ferritin
molecules were found to be localized at positions corresponding to the tips of the
spikes. Such an association was not observed with the cores whose spikes had been
removed by alkali treatment. These results provide unequivocal evidence that protein
ol is present in icosahedrally-distributed locations, representing tips of reovirus core
spikes, on the surface of reovirus particles

A sensitive and selective procedure was developed for the spectrophotometric
determination of silver by its catalytic effect on the oxidation of gallocyanine by
peroxydisulphate in acidic media at 540 nm. Silver can be determined in the range of
0.001-0.500 µg/ml with a limit of detection of 0.0005 µg/ml, by a fixed-time method
of 4.0 min from initiation of the reaction, The relative standard deviation for ten
replicate determinations of 0.050 µg/ml of Ag(1) is 1.4%. This method was used for
the determination of silver in real smples.

AN FT-IR SPECTROSCOPIC INVESTIGATION OF

The interaction between DMSO and alkaline earth perchlorates in anhydrous
acetonitrile was investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy. A quantitative study was
performed to determine the average number of bonded DMSO molecules using v (SO)
and v (C-S) vibrations. Changes in coordination numbers were observed both
with increasing atomic numbers and the solvent composition. None of the investigated
systems shows any interaction with either perchlorate ions or acetonittile molecules.
Apparent equilibrium constants were estimated from the average coordination
numbers.

The second virial coefficients are given as a spherical-core contribution plus a
series of nonspherical perturbation terms. A revised analysis is given of the effect of
long-range nonspherical terms in the intermolecular potential on the second virial
coefficient given by a preferred HFDIDl spherical core treatment of the integration
for small intermolecular distances. This effect is considered by damping functions

Using a sample fiom Burr type XU distribution, Bayes prediction intervals are
derived for the maximum and minimum of a future sample fromthe same distribution,
but in the presence of a single outlier of the type 8,8. The prior of Q is assumed to be the gamma conjugate. A real example is given to illustrate the procedure. Also, the comparison between the values of the prediction bounds for different values of ? and different future sample sizes is given

QUASI-PERMUTATION REPRESENTATIONS OF

By a quasi-permutation matrix we mean a square matrix over the complex field C
with non-negative integral trace. Thus every permutation matrix over C is a quasipermutation matrix. For a given finite group G, let p(G) denote the minimal degree of a faithful permutation representation of G (or of a faithful representation of G by permutation matrices), let q(G) denote the minimal degree of a faithful representation of G by quasi-permuation matrices over the rational field Q, and let c(G) be the minimal degree of a faithful representation of G by complex quasi-permuatation matrices. Let r(G) denote the minimal degree of a faithful rational valued character of G. In this paper we will calculate c(G), q(G), p(G) and r(G) where G= Sz(q) is the Suzuki group . Also we will show that lim .

ALGEBRAIC NONLINEARITY IN

Here a posteriori error estimate for the numerical solution of nonlinear Voltena-
Hammerstein equations is given. We present an error upper bound for nonlinear
Voltena-Hammastein integral equations, in which the form of nonlinearity is
algebraic and develop a posteriori error estimate for the recently proposed method of
Brunner for these problems (the implicitly linear collocation method). We also
generalize this upper bound for nonlinear Volterra integro-differential and Volterra-
Hammerstein integral equations of mixed type . Finally, several numerical examples
are gken to show effectiveness of these bounds

STUDY OF NUCLEAR LEVEL DENSITY AND
SPIN CUT-OFF FACTORS
text

Nuclear level densities and spin cut-off factors have been deduced for nuclei in the
mass region 24‹A‹63,from a microscopic theory, which includes nuclear pairing interaction. Single particle levels for both Seeger and Nilsson potentials were used in the calcdations. Level densities extracted from the theory are compared with their conesponding experimental values, It is found that the overall agreement between experimental level densities and the microscopic theory with pairing is very good. The calculational procedure to account for an odd particle system blocking, as well as the effect of such blocking, is also discussed

OBSERVATION OF THE HARD DISRUPTION

In this article, some diagnostic systems and the preliminary results of the IR-T1**
(Iran-Tokamak 1) are presented. Different diagnostic methods, including an array of
soft X-ray detectors, visible spectrometer, electron cyclotron emission detector and
electromagnetic measurement systems have been used and the hard disruptive
instability occurring in the IR-T1 plasma during an ohmic heating discharge, under
a range of reproducible conditions for 3 q(a) 2, is studied. It is found that the
disruption activity occurs when the value of the safety factor at the plasma edge
becames less than q(a) 2.7.
