STUDIES ON THE CARYOLOGY OF SOME
SPECIES OF THE GENUS SUAEDA
(CHENOPODIACEAE) IN IRAN
Caryological studies were carried out on ten species of the genus Suaeda
belonging to 27 samples of different populations in Iran. Important
chromosome features including numbers, lengths, centromere locations and
caryotypes were studied. All the species have basic chromosome numbers of
x=9. Chromosome counts of S. acuminata (C.A.Mey.) Moq. (2n=18), S.
aegyptiaca (Hasselq.) Zoh., (2n=l8), S. baluchistanica Akhani and Podl.
(2n=72), S. crassifolia Pall., (2n = 18), and S. microsperma (C.A.Mey.) Fenzel,
(2n=18) are given for the first time. Another chromosome number for S.
fruticosa J.F.Gmelin (2n=72) is also reported

IN VITRO STUDY OF AN ENDOGENOUS
IMMUNOSUPPRESSOR FACTOR DERIVED
FROM HUMAN OR BOVINE SERUM
The effects of the human and bovine LSF (derived from sera) as well as their
purified fractions were studied on murine lymphocytes reactions indicated by
blast transformation (BT) assay, mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) and IgG
synthesis. The results indicated that bovine lipid suppressor factor (LSF) has
significant immunosuppressive activity on lymphocytes proliferation both in
BT and MLC assays. However, human LSF showed suppressive activity on
lymphocyte proliferations only in MLC but not in BT assays. Concerning the
effects of partially purified bovine LSF molecules on humoral immune
response, we found that band #3 at 1:s dilution strongly suppresses IgG
synthesis of murine spleenocytes in response to pokeweed mitogen stimulation.
Band #1 and band #3 are agents with cellular immunosuppressor activity.
However, band #2 is not as suppressive as the other bands in BT, MLC, and
IgG assays. It seems that the mixture of all bands together may have synergistic
activity in the in vitro studies. This idea has been concluded from the results in
BT and MLC assays which are presented in histograms #1 and #2. Before
concluding that we have found an alternative immunotherapeutic agent to
cyclosporine A, we need to study the molecular structure of these compounds
as well as in vivo reactions of bovine LSF in skin transplantation. Since purified
human LSF and its three bands did not indicate as much cellular
immunosuppressive activity as bovine LSF, the study of their effects was not
followed up in detail like bovine LSF in this project

PREPARATION AND ISOMERIZATION OF
DICHLOROAMINO-3,5-DIFLUORORO-4-
HEPTAFLUOROISOPROPYL-6-METHOXY
PYRIDINE
Treatment of 4-heptafluoroisopropyl-2-methoxy-3,5,6-trifluropyridine (4 )
with aqueous ammonia in THF gave 2-amino-3,5-difluoro-4-heptafluoroisopropyl-
6-methoxy pyridine (5) in 7 1% yield. Chlorination of this amine with
'ButOCl at -16°C gave an unstable product, namely 2-dichloroarnino-3,5-
difluoro-4-heptafluoroisopropyl-6-methoxy pyridine (6). Iodine-catalysed
rearrangement of this dichloroamino-compound provided a ca. 70:30 mixture of
3-chloro-6-chloroimino-3,5-difluoro- 4-heptafluoroisopropyl-2-methox y -I
azacyclohexa- l,4-diene (7) and 5-chloro-6-chloroirnino-3,5-difluoro-4-hepta fluoroisopropyl-
2-methoxy- 1 -azacyclohexa- l,3-diene(8). The C NMR spectra
of these imines have also been studied

UPPER DEVONIAN ACRITARCHS
AND MIOSPORES FROM THE GEIRUD
FORMATION IN CENTRAL ALBORZ
RANGE, NORTHERN IRAN
The Geirud Formation consists mainly of clastic sediments which are
interbedded with limestone stringers. This rock unit is well-exposed along the
Central Alborz Range in northern Iran. The Geirud Formation rests
unconformably on the Mila Formation (Upper Cambrian) and is conformably
overlain by the Mobarak Formation (Lower Carboniferous). This study was
undertaken to determine the geological age of the Geirud Formation, to
interpret the depositional sites, and to reconstruct the palaeogeographic
relationships between the Central Alborz Range and the southern and northern
hemispheres during the Upper Devonian epoch. A total of 59 palynomorph
species were described in this study, including 27 acritarch species (21 genera)
and 32 miospore species (21 genera). In ascending stratigraphic order, these
have been arranged in four miospore and three acritarch assemblages. The
assemblage zones I through 111 represent Upper Devonian (Frasnian-
Famennian) and zone IV suggests Lower Tournaisian. A major hiatus which
includes Ordovician, Silurian, and Lower-Middle Devonian was recognized
between the Geirud and Mila formations. This hiatus possibly coincides with
the Hercynian orogeny which resulted in the emergence of the Central Alborz
Range. In terms of relative frequency, the acritarchs and miospores comprise
48% and 52%, respectively. The presence of acritarchs in the Geirud Formation
suggests a shallow marine environment which covered the Central Alborz
Range during the Upper Devonian epoch. On the other hand, the presence of
miospores in the Geirud Formation shows that spore-bearing plants grew on the
adjacent land masses that were transported into the shallow marine basin.
Among the encountered tnorphotype species of the Ceirud Formation Archneoper.
Perisaccus scabratus a nd Retispora lepirloyhyta are more important than the

THE INTERNAL IDEAL LATTICE IN THE
TOPOS OF M-SETS
We believe that the study of the notions of universal algebra modelled in an
arbitarry topos rather than in the category of sets provides a deeper
understanding of the real features of the algebraic notions. [2], [3], [4], [S], [6],
[7], [13], [14] are some examples of this approach. The lattice Id(L) of ideals of
a lattice L (in the category of sets) is an important ingredient of the category of
lattices. In this paper, we construct the (internal) ideal lattice T(A) of a lattice
A in the topos of M-sets for a monoid M. The process of the construction of
Y(A) is so that it can also be done in any arbitrary topos whose ingredients are
known. Finally, we consider the lattice structure of T(A) for some special kind
of lattices A in the topos of M-sets and show, among other things, that if A is
an internally complete M-Boolean algebra then Y(A) is an M-Stone lattice

B -AND B - COMPLETENESS IN LOCALLY
CONVEX ALGEBRAS AND THE E x
THEOREM
Let E be a B-complete (B -complete) locally convex algebra and $ the
topological direct sum of countably many copies of the scalar field with a
jointly continuous algebra multiplication. It has been shown that E is also
B-complete (B -complete) for componentwise multiplication on E . B-and
Br-completeness of E , the unitization of E, and also of E x for other
multiplications on E has been studied.

OPTICAL ABSORPTION IN Ce0 -V 0
EVAPORATE THIN FILMS
In this work, the optical absorption near the fundamental absorption edge of
co-evaporated Ce0 -V20 films is studied. It is found that the fundamental
optical absorption in these materials is sharp more like that expected for
crystals. It is also found that as the V O content increases, the edge becomes
less sharp and shifts towards higher wavelengths
