CYTOTAXONOMIC STUDIES OF SOME
IRANIAN VICIA SPECIES (FABACAEA)
This study concerns the cytotaxonomic investigations on twelve species belonging
to three sections from the genus Vicia in Iran. A taxonomic background of the genus
is given in brief. The previous counts reported for the genus in Index to plant
chromosome number are summarized. In addition to one new count, the chromosome numbers of four species are reported for the first time. Briefly, the results of this study are discussed and compared with the reported counts

A PHENETIC ANALYSIS OF THE SPECIES OF
IRANIAN OXYTROPIS (FABACEAE) BASED ON
MORPHOLOGICAL DATA
A phenetic analysis is presented using SAHN clustering (UPGMA, simple
matching coefficient). The resulting phenetic analysis is compared with the
classification of Oxytropis as suggested by Bunge [2] and Vassilczenko [ll]. The
results partly correspond with Bungean classification and suggest that there are
basically four sections (Mesogaea, Oxytropis, Janthina, Eumorphu) which can be
grouped under two subgenera, namely Oxytropis and Euoxytropis. The subgenus
Oxyfropis including section Mesogaea and the subgenus Euoxytropis including
sections Oxytropis, Janthina and Ortholema are upheld by this analysis. It is
concluded that section Ortholema should be united with section Eumorphu or 0.
masanderanensis, 0. Kuchunensis and 0. suavis moved to section Eumorpha. The
results of cluster analyses were compared with the classification obtained by
conventional methods and the relations among the taxa have been discussed

EXTRACTIVE-SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC
DETERMINATION OF VANADIUM(V) AS
AN ION-ASSOCIATION COMPLEX WITH
4-(2-PYRIDYLAZ0)-RESORCINOALN D
TETRABUTYLAMMONIUM
PERCHLORATE
A simple and sensitive extractive- spectrophotometric method for thedeterrnination
of trace amounts of vanadium(V) is reported. The method is based on the quantitative
extraction of the anion complex of V(V) with 4-(2-pyridy1azo)-resorcinol with
tetrabutylammonium perchlorate into chloroform, followed by spectrophotometric
measurements at 554 nm. Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range of
5-350ng m l at 554 nm with a molar absorptivity of 1 . 3 1m ol cm . The relative standard deviation is 1.6% for a 100 ng ml vanadium solution. The interfering effect of various cations and anions was studied. The method was applied to thedeterrnination of vanadium is some synthetic samples

COLUMN PRECONCENTRATION OF URANIUM
BY 1 -(2-PY RIDYLAZ0)-2-NAPHTHOL
SUPPORTED ON NAPHTHALENE USING
DIF'FERENTLAL PULSE POLAROGRAPHY
A solid chelating material, 1-(2-pyridy1azo)-2-naphthol (PAN) supported on
naphthalene provides a rapid and highly selective means of preconcentration of
uranium from aqueous solution. Uranium is quantitatively retained on this adsorbent
in the pH range 9.8-10.7 with a flow rate of 1 ml min . The metal complex was
desorbed with 10 ml of 2 M hydrochloric acid and uranium is determined by
differential pulse polarography (DPP). The detection limit is 1.5 µg ml (Signal to
noise ratio = 2). The linearity is maintained in the concentration range 3.0 - 310 ) µ g
ml with a correlation coefficient of 0.9994 (n=7) and relative standard deviation of
1.1 %(n=7). Characterization of the electroactive process included an examination
of the degree of reversibility. Various parameters such as the effect of pH, volume of
aqueous phase and interference of a number of metal ions on the determination of
uranium have been studied in detail to optimize the conditions for determination of
uranium.

ROLE OF Mn(TPP)Cl IN THE EPOXIDATION
WITH SINGLET OXYGEN
Mn(TPP)Cl catalyzes cooxidation of olefin in the singlet oxygenation of sulfid.
Mn(TPP)Cl is able to transfer an oxygen atom from a peroxidic intermediate
generated in singlet oxygenation of sulfide to a metal ion affording metal 0x0 species
which is responsible for epoxidation. This system leads to allcenes epoxidation such
as styrene and cyclooctene. Epoxidation of cyclohexene produces cyclohexenol,
cyclohexenone and cyclohexene oxide

SOME UNUSUAL REACTIONS OF
3-PHENYLAMINOISOXAZOL-5 (2H)- ONES
3-Phenylaminoisoxazol-5(2H)-ones,s ubstituted on nitrogen with an isoquinoline or quinazoline group, react with tertiary amine bases to give imidazo annelated compounds. When the N-substituent is a nitropyridine, 2-aminoindole derivatives are formed instead. Evidence is presented that the reactions proceed by initial addition of the tertiary arnine to C-4

SOME SULFIDE-SILICATE ASSEMBLAGES
FROM THE SAR CHESHMEH PORPHYRY
COPPER DEPOSIT, KERMAN, IRAN
Studies of three selected sulfide-silicate assemblages from ore samples from the
Sar Cheshmeh porphyry copper deposit led to some ore genetic conclusions. The
presence of chalcopyrite blebs in the groundmass orthoclase and quartz from the stock
suggests liquid immiscibility in a cooling late-magmatic melt. This is in favor of the
orthomagmatic model proposed for porphyry copper deposits. The presence of
bornite grains suggests a partly derivation of copper from biotite. This further
supports the results obtained from the electron microprobe studies of the textural
varieties of biotite. The presence of pyrite in the sericitized parts of biotite grains
suggests a hydrothermal origin for the sericitized biotite enclosed pyrite grains.

ASSOCIATED PRIME IDEALS IN C(X)
The minimal prime decomposition for semiprime ideals is defined and studied on
z-ideals of C(X). The necessary and sufficient condition for existence of the minimal prime decomposition of a z-ideal / is given, when / satisfies one of the following conditions: (i) / is an intersection of maximal ideals. (ii) I is an intersection of O , s, when X is basically disconnected. (iii) I=O , when x X has a countable base of neighborhoods. (iv) I is finitely generated. (v) / is countably generated, when X is
compact and countable of first kind

In this paper, we develop two piecewise polynomial methods for the numerical
evaluation of Cauchy Principal Value integrals of oscillatory kind. The two piecewisepolynomial

Two numerical examples are presented to illustrate the two rules developed, The
convergence of the two schemes is proved and some error bounds obtained,
