The organic solvent extraction of Armillaria mellea showed different highly
intrinsic fluorescent compounds either in rhizomorph or in hyphae (F , F , F ,
MF , MF and MF ). The characterization of ultraviolet and fluoro-spectrophotometry
of these compounds has been exhibited. Thin layer chromatography
and fluorescent spectrum of hyphae and rhizomorph indicated an additional
compound (FH) in hyphae. The compound probably plays a role in differentiation
from hyphae to rhizomorph

Thermal rearrangement of spirans (14) and (31) yields the xanthones (16,34)
and diphenylrnethane (15, 32), respectively. The structure for xanthone (16),
isolated from thermolysis, has been established by reduction to xanthene (20)
followed by reoxidation to give xanthone (16). Alternatively, methylation of the
diphenylmethane (15) followed by heating with selenium dioxide also yields
xanthone (16). The transformation of the diphenylrnethane (15) into xanthone
(16) occurs by heating with selenium dioxide either with or without solvent.

Pain is probably the immediate stimulus for more visits to the Physician's
office than all other complaints combined. Since pain serves as an alert to
injury, it is often the first harbinger of disease. Piperidine has been extensively
utilized for the synthesis of a wide range of therapeutic agents in
general and analgetics in particular for the mitigation of pain. In a similar
attempt, the N-methyl piperidine molecule was derivatized with various
phenacyl halides and the resultant quaternary derivatives were explored extensively
for analgesic activity using the tail flick test. Spectrophotometric
techniques such as UV, IR, Proton NMR and Mass (EI) were also utilized to
confirm the structures of the newly-synthesized compounds. All the compounds
exhibited analgesic activity and particularly 1-[3', 4'-dihydroxyphenacyl)
- N - methylpiperidinium bromide showed approximately one twentieth
the analgesic activity of morphine

The 70 ev positive and negative ion mass spectra of ring-substituted nitrobenzenes
were studied. The influence of the substituent group on the fragmentation
modes of the molecular ions is discussed. The effect of pressure in the
formation of negative ions was also studied. As expected, the ratio of fragment
ions to negative molecular ions decreased with increasing pressure in ion
source.

A kinetic study of the decomposition of pyridine chromium peroxide with
methanol, ethanol, propanol and isopropanol has been made over the temperature
range 25 to 40°C. It is found that the ligand exchange stage is the rate determining step in the oxidation process. The activation parameters E , ?H‡ and ?S‡ for the reactions are determined. It is believed that the peroxide linkage is primarily responseble for the oxidation process

HYDROCHEMISTRY OF KARST SPRINGS FROM

One hundred and nineteen karst springs, all with electrical conductivity of less than
500 gmhosfcm, discharging two carbonatic aquifers in Zagrosides of Iran are chosen
and studied. The results indicate that the lithology of each unit is well reflected in the
chemistry of the springs and the overall mineralogical composition of the aquifer can
successfully be reconstructed from the hydrochemistry of the springs using a mass
balance approach. A comparison of the chemistry of the springs reveals that the
significant difference is due to the dolomitic nature of one of the studied aquifers

Seventeen two-photon transitions for neon have been observed in the 580-
635 nm spectral region for use in the spectroscopic study of its higher excited
levels, which are not accessible by one-photon absorption. To compare the two
and one-photon absorption signals originating from the same lower level, an
effort was made to record single-photon optogalvanic spectrum in the available
wavelength region. The dependence of optogalvanic signals on the laser power
has also been studied. The optogalvanic signals were obtained from a commercial
neon-filled, hollow-cathode lamp, which was irradiated with pulsed dye
laser pumped with N laser

The reaction proceeds via a highly asynchronous reaction path to the zwitterionic

Cu lies on a center of symmetry. Crystals are monoclinic space group P2 / n with four molecules/ unit cell of dimensions a = 9.240 (4), b = 14.930 (3), c = 14.288 (5) ? and
B= 97.02 (3)?. The final R value is 0.045 for 3808 reflections measured.
