Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) protoplasts were isolated from the cells of a suspension culture or calli with a solution of Cellulase, Pectinase and Hemicellulase and embedded in Ca-alginate beads. They were cultured with or without nurse cells in MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D and 6-benzylaminopurine at 25°C. After several changes of medium, cell-clusters appeared on the surface of the Ca-alginate beads. The protoplasts without immobilization in Ca-alginate beads did not display cell division. Furthermore, growth of cell clusters in the medium with nurse cells was much better than in the medium without nurse cells. Then, the beads were transferred onto MS agar medium supplemented with 1-naphtalene acetic acid and 6-benzylaminopurine and cultured at 15°C or 20°C. After 3-4 months of culture, great calli were observed on the surface of the beads. The regenerated shoots were obtained approximately 6-7 months after protoplast isolation. The critical factors seem to be associated with the quality of the culture, enzyme composition and concentration used for protoplast isolation.

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of salinity and light intensity on the chlorophylls, ?-carotene and protein contents in Dunaliella salina Teod. The algae were grown in inorganic medium containing 0, 0.9, 1.8 (control), 2.6 and 3.5 M NaCl under three illumination regimens [4500 (control), 9000 and 11000 Lux]. The results showed that most electrophoresis protein bands were separated in media with 1.8 and 2.6 M NaCl under continuous illumination with white fluorescent lamps at 4500 Lux and the most pigment contents were extracted in culture with concentration of 2.6 M NaCl under the same light intensity.

The mode of inheritance of seedling color and plant pubescence was studied in two crosses among three parents, which differed for these traits. The results have revealed that purple seedling color was dominant over green seedling color and pubescence was dominant over nonpubescence. These two traits segregated independently of each other may be used as morphological markers individually for different genetic studies and to estimate the rate of out-crossing in mungbean.

Numerical taxonomy and seed storage protein analysis of Hyoscyamus species of Iran was carried out with the aim to illustrate species inter-relationship and to check the sub-generic taxonomic treatment proposed for the genus. Cluster analysis of morphological and protein data grouped the species in three separate clusters which supports the relationships of H. niger with H. reticulatus and H. kurdicus with H. squarrosus and H. arachnoideus. Discriminant analysis produced three separate groups with 100% correctness of predicted versus actual membership of the species studied, supporting the sub-generic treatment of the genus Hyoscamus.

The present work describes a selective, rapid and sensitive method for the determination of cobalt using the adsorptive differential pulse voltammetry technique. The method is based on the accumulation of Co(II) complex with 2-aminocyclopentene-1-dithiocarboxylic acid on a hanging mercury drop electrode, followed by measurement of the current of the adsorbed complex. The effects of experimental parameters on the peak current were investigated. The current was linear from 0.010 to 0.150 ?g/ml of Co(II), with detection limit of 1.5 ng/ml. The relative standard deviation for ten replicate analyses of 0.02 and 0.06 ?g/ml Co(II) was 2.3% and 1.2%, respectively. The method was used for the determination of Cobalt in steel sample.

Cyclic voltammogram and differential pulse polarograph of octaethyl porphyrin iron(III) chloride in dichloromethane was investigated in the presence of pyridine, imidazole and collidine. Values of E1/2 for FeIII/FeII redox reaction were monitored as a function of axial group concentration, and on the basis of these data, an overall oxidation-reduction and ligand addition scheme was formulated. Addition of pyridine resulted in anodic shift for oxidation wave from –0.16 V to –0.06 V while for imidazole and collidine we observed a cathodic shift.

In the present work, we have examined the ability of some different equations of state in predicting the Joule-Thomson coefficient, ?J-T, of different fluids. For dense fluids, for which density is greater than the Boyle density, ?B, two appropriate equations of state, namely the linear isotherm regularity, LIR, and the dense system equation of state, DSEOS, have been examined. The results show that the DSEOS is in better agreement with the experimental data than the LIR. However, only at very high pressures the LIR gives a better result. For low densities, densities lower than the Boyle density, twelve equations of state namely the van der Waals, Dieterici, Bertholet, Deiters, Virial, Adachi-Lu-Sugie, Kubic-Marthin, Yu-Lu, Twu-Coon-Cunningham, Song-Mason, Ihm-Song-Mason, and the extended linear isotherm regularity, ELIR, have been examined. The results show that the Virial, Song-Mason, Ihm-Song-Mason and ELIR are in a better agreement than the others. Finally we have recommended an appropriate equation of state (ELIR) from which the Joule-Thomson coefficient can be calculated. In this way we found that two harmless refrigerants, R-152a and R-32, have the largest value of ?J-T, which is in accordance with the experimental observations.

The Oligocene-Miocene granitic rocks of Deh Siahan, part of central Iranian volcanic belt, are intruded into Eocene volcano-sedimentary complex where their contact is marked by albite-epidote hornblende hornfels facies and granitic apophyses. The granitic rocks show enhanced LIL element abundances and low HFS/LIL ratios. Geochemical data, various trace element discriminant diagrams, enhanced Y/Nb and Ce/Nb ratio, and ocean ridge granite normalized multi-element diagrams indicate that the Deh Siahan granitic rocks have characteristics of high-K, calc-alkaline, I-Cordilleran type granites of volcanic arc settings. In this aspect, it may represent part of an Andean-type magmatic arc formed in response to subduction of Neotethys oceanic crust beneath Central Iran, unrelated to a rift settings. The partial melting of subducted oceanic crust led to the formation of basic magma. Its emplacement under the mantle wedge provoked melting in the considerably metasomatized and enriched sub-continental lithosphere. This caused generation of siliceous magma which its low pressure crystal fractionation eventually led to the formation of Deh Siahan granitic rocks.

We have studied the effect of hypothetical Cosmions on the core stability of main sequence stars (of populations I and II). Cosmions, with a mass of 4-10 Gev/c2 and a scattering cross section with nucleons of approximately 10-36 cm2 could prevail in transporting heat in the stellar cores. Raby [17] showed the existence of a local thermal instability caused by the presence of Cosmions in the solar core. Here we have used more accurate analytic relations and have considered all of the main sequence stars which have captured an efficient number of these hypothetical particles from their birth up to the present time. We have found a wide range of probable instabilities in the stellar cores for various values of Knudsen number, cosmion mass and cosmion cross section.
