Abstract

This paper provides evidence for the presence of Gazella gazella on Fmur Island
of Iran in the Persian Gulf. The species has not hitherto been reported from Iran. Based on univariate and multivariate analysis of a number of morphological features of the skull including horn length, premaxillae type, shape of nasal bones and skull breadth it is concluded that the Iranian population represents a new subspecies; skulls of females are more distinctive than males for intirspecific comparisons. Descriptive statistics for measured variables are given and the new subspecies is described and named
